Guide
What happens when I sell my song?
By the Sell Your Song team · Last updated:
When you sell your song, you swap its future royalties for a lump sum paid now. You stay credited as the writer or artist; what transfers is the right to receive the royalties on the share you sell.
How does selling a song work, step by step?
- Submit. Paste a Spotify link and tell us about the song.
- We review your statements. Your royalty statements show what the song really earns.
- Offer within 24 hours. Once we have what we need, we send a written offer.
- Accept. Take your time. You can ask questions or say no.
- Contract. You sign a written contract electronically, stating exactly what you're selling and the price.
- Payment. We pay you as set out in the contract.
Do I keep credit if I sell my song?
Yes. You're still credited as the writer or artist. Selling changes who receives the royalties, not who made the music.
What transfers
The share of the royalties named in the contract — for example, your songwriting share, your recording, or a percentage of either. Anything not named in the contract stays with you.
No fees, no obligation
You never pay us a fee to get an offer, and nothing is binding until you sign. See how to check any buyer and what your song could be worth.
