Guide
How much is my song worth?
By the Sell Your Song team · Last updated:
Your song is worth a multiple of what it earns each year in royalties. The value mainly depends on how much it earns, how steady those earnings are, and how long it has been out.
What drives a song valuation
- Yearly earnings. What the song actually pays you, taken from your royalty statements — not stream counts alone.
- Steadiness. Earnings that hold up year after year are worth more than ones that are falling.
- Age. A song that has been out for a few years and still earns has shown it lasts.
What could my song be worth?
| Average yearly royalties | Typical offer range |
|---|---|
| £100 | £200 – £300 |
| £250 | £500 – £750 |
| £500 | £1,000 – £1,500 |
| £1,000 | £2,000 – £3,000 |
| £2,500 | £5,000 – £7,500 |
| £5,000 | £10,000 – £15,000 |
Every song is valued individually. Steady songs with a few years behind them sit towards the top of the range; songs whose earnings are falling sit towards the bottom. We usually need a song to earn at least £100 a year before we can make an offer.

Frequently asked questions
How is a song valued?
Usually as a multiple of its average yearly royalties. Our offers are typically 2.0× to 3.0× that figure.
Do streams decide what my song is worth?
Streams help, but the valuation is based on what the song actually pays you, shown on your royalty statements.
Is the online valuation a firm offer?
No. It's an indicative estimate. A firm offer comes after we've checked your statements.
Why would my song be at the low end of the range?
Usually because its earnings are falling or it hasn't been out long enough to show steady income.
What's the smallest song you'll buy?
We usually need at least £100 a year in confirmed royalties.
Does it cost anything to get a valuation?
No. Valuations are free and there's no obligation to sell.
