Sell Your Song

Frequently asked

Selling your song — the honest answers

No jargon, no small print. Everything sellers ask us before signing.

Can I sell my song?

Yes. If you own the songwriter's share of your song — or a slice of it — you can sell it for a lump sum. We buy from independent writers and artists in the UK and worldwide. You don't need a lawyer, a manager, or a record deal to sell. You just need to own what you're selling.

How much is my song worth?

Most independent songs sell for between £500 and £15,000, with active catalogues going higher. The exact figure depends on how much the song earns per year, how consistent those earnings are, how well the song is registered, and how much life it has left. Paste your Spotify link for a free 30-second indicative estimate.

How do you work out what my song is worth?

We multiply your song's annual earnings by a value multiple that reflects how stable and healthy the catalogue is. Fresh streaming activity, complete registration (PRS, MLC, ISWC), and a clean royalty statement push the number up. Missing paperwork or a fading trajectory pull it down. We show you the range up front, then confirm the exact offer when we see your statement.

How fast do I get paid?

Within 24 hours of a completed deal. Once you sign the contract, funds land in your bank account the next working day. No 30-day waits, no clawbacks, no drip-feed payments.

Do I lose my song forever if I sell?

It depends which option you pick. Active writers can choose a 75/25 deal — we take 75% of future royalties, you keep 25% for life and stay credited as the writer. Or you can take a 100% buyout for the biggest lump sum. Either way, you keep your name on the song and your artist rights (performing, re-recording, streaming credits) are unaffected.

What do you need from me?

For the free estimate, just a Spotify link to the song. For a real, binding offer we ask for your most recent royalty statement — the PDF or CSV from your distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby, AWAL) or your PRS statement. That's it. No accountant, no forms, no phone calls unless you want one.

Is the valuation really free?

Yes. Completely free, no obligation, no hidden fees. You paste a Spotify link, we show you a range. If you like the number, we make an offer. If you don't, you walk away and owe nothing.

What kinds of songs do you buy?

Songs that are earning consistent royalties — usually at least a few pounds a month across streaming and PRS. Genre doesn't matter. Indie folk, pop, hip-hop, electronic, singer-songwriter, sync placements — if it pays, we're interested. We tend to skip brand-new releases (under three years old) because there isn't enough earnings history to value them fairly.

Who is Sell Your Song?

Sell Your Song is the trading name of Royalties Inc Limited, a UK company that buys songwriter royalties directly from independent artists and writers. We're not a broker, a middleman, or a marketplace — we're the buyer. That means faster decisions, cleaner contracts, and money in your account within 24 hours.

Is this legit — how do I know I'll get paid?

Royalties Inc Limited is a registered UK company. Every deal is documented with a signed contract, and payment is sent by same-day bank transfer as soon as the paperwork is complete. You'll have a written contract in your inbox before any money changes hands, and you're welcome to have a lawyer review it — most sellers don't bother because the terms are short and plain.
